The Google App Engine Advantage

March 20th, 2009 by Daniel

Agon uses the Google App Engine for data storage. We believe this is a huge advantage over other server setups.

Why? Let’s list some of the advantages:

  • Scales perfectly with demand – even when your game hits the top 25!
  • 100,000s of servers around the globe means great reliability and high performance – no matter where your players are!
  • Secure storage technology developed by the rocket scientists at Google!smile

Let us all simply do what we are best at:

  • Let Google take care of the scalable server platform (they know how)
  • Let us provide you with an easy to use system for handling users, lost passwords etc.
  • Spent your precious time creating great games for all of us

If you want to know more about the Google App Engine advantage – feel free to contact us at developer@agon-online.com.

At iGames Summit 2009

I am at the iGames Summit 2009. If you read this I probably already handed you a flyer for Agon, but feel free to find me anyways if you want a demo. I will also be at GDC Mobile handing out flyers and demoing our great system. If you would like to set up a meeting at any time, just send me an email at daniel@aptocore.com.

We also integrated with Facebook, so hooking up with your friends there is now easier than ever.

[update]

Phew! Today was a very, very exciting day. A lot of people wanted to talk about the potential for Agon and games using it. I am happy to say that we agree completely!

One specific feature that was in great demand was a recommendation system for games – and we are very fortunate to have one built right into Agon. In fact it is a vital part of our business plan! Our system keeps track on what games are being played thoughout the social graph. Using this data personalized recommendations are given. We will spare you the details (for now), but rest assured that we want the great games that you build to be easily discovered. The App Store is a jungle, but do not worry – Agon will guide your game safely through.smile

T-3: If You’re going to San Francisco

March 16th, 2009 by Daniel

We are 3 days away from public disclosure and we are (almost) ready to go. We are working hard at integrating the recently announced Facebook Connect for iPhone into Agon, while wrapping up the rest as well. Crunch time!

T-14: Busy

March 5th, 2009 by Daniel

We’re very busy getting Agon ready for launch. All the basic functionality is in place and we are continuously improving the UI, memory footprint and performance in general. The global high scores are now streamed more efficiently from the servers, which makes the user experience more fluid and pleasant.

The UI flow for (first time) users has a high priority for us, so we are putting a lot of efford into making it as unobtrusive as we possibly can. We want Agon to enable players, not to distract them.

Things are starting to shape up for our launch at iGames Summit and GDC Mobile in just 14 days. We are very excited soon to be able to share this with everybody out there.
